weightless world // 80/20 rule

Yet another new feature will be "Weightless Wednesdays"!  Ladies and gentlemen, I do not have a perfect body and I don't think I ever will.  However, I am confident that with a little work and discipline I could have a great body.  In these posts you will be following my journey for healthier, fitter form; but let me give you a disclaimer.  This isn't about what weight I achieve,  I will not be posting a weekly weight.  There are a couple reasons for this: 1) the number isn't what matters to me, what matters is how I feel; 2) there is only one scale in my apartment and the other day it told me I weigh 104 lbs HIGHLY INACCURATE! 3) these posts won't be so much about following my own journey as helping all of us on our journeys together.  So that is why I won't be doing a weekly weigh in, however I will let you know where I'm at right now and I'll try to find  an accurate scale maybe once a month just so you guys have some idea about whether anything is actually happening.

So, here is where I'm starting.  I am 20 years old, 5'4" and around 135lbs.  I have an hourglass shape, but this pretty much only means that my chest and hips are slightly larger than my midsection and instead of having problem areas I just gain weight everywhere.  While I don't think that the number you weigh is very important, it is a very good way to set a concrete goal.  So my goal weight is between 120-125.

Here comes the part where I give sage wisdom to help us all on our journeys.  Could you hear the sarcasm?  Good.  I am not an expert, AT ALL.  I'll just be sharing advice that I find compelling and/or useful.  The first of which is 80/20.

I'm sure that most of you have already heard of this rule.  But basically all it's saying is that weight loss comes mostly from maintaining a healthy diet and only a small part is due to exercise.  Do you know what this means?!  This means you don't have to spend hours at the gym, which is great!  However it also means that you can't eat crap and expect to just work all of it off.  I think this 80/20 rule is probably the most important thing to keep in mind while beginning any weight loss program.  But if you don't work well with numbers, this a mantra that I have found helpful: diet determines the size you are, whereas exercise determines what shape you'll be.  Now I don't mean that if you workout you'll go from pear to apple shape.  I mean that you'll build lean muscle which will improve your body's overall shape.

I really hope this was helpful, please leave any comments, suggestions, or personal stories below!

x Ren
