It seems that winter has officially kicked in and it is wicked cold outside!! A couple days ago, when I was referencing the weather to get ready, this is what I saw:
I think we can all agree that -2 is quite cold indeed and is more difficult to dress for. So, I decided to offer you guys a little advice on how to dress nicely while trying to stay warm.
Above is what we want to avoid. I know when it's cold all you want to do is put sweatpants on and stay inside, but you can't! Unfortunately, the world still operates at -2 and therefore so must you (and not looking like you just rolled out of bed). So let's leave this look for sledding or lazy nights in.
When winter comes, coats are your best friends. Sadly, you won't be able to get away with wearing fall jackets and expect to be warm. You really should invest in a couple winter coats. Having a variety makes it easier to match with your clothes, and makes it much more fun to bundle up. However, if your budget won't allow this, try to get a coat that will go with most things in your wardrobe.
I secretly wish it was cold year round, and scarves are a big reason for that. I strongly believe that no winter look is complete without a scarf, therefore you should have a bunch of awesome scarves. These are just a few of my favorites and the one my sister got me in Thailand (or Singapore) is my favorite item in my wardrobe. Tip: while I love infinity scarves, I suggest buying scarves that are really wide so you can put them over your head like a hood if it's really cold.
Sweaters are the best and I wear them all year round in rebellion of the heat. Mix and match colors, textures, and shapes of your sweaters. Don't just get a bunch of cardigans or a bunch of pullovers. Don't be afraid to play around with how you wear these. One of my favorite things is to wear cardigans as a shirt, I find them so much more comfortable that way.
And of course: leggings (and some tights too)! I would like to go on record and say that I am NOT a fan of pants. I much prefer leggings, however I only wear leggings with tops that cover my bum. Leggings are so much more comfortable and are great for transitioning skirts, dresses and tunics to winter wear. Above are some examples: (top left corner) these are just some of the most soft and comfy leggings, I highly recommend them; (top right) these lovelies are fleece lined tights and are perfection in the winter time; (bottom left) these are both made of sweater material which makes them really warm and also look really cool; (bottom right) these are just leggings with cool texture, a snakeskin leathery one and velvet ones which are heaven.
Boots, everyone needs some sturdy warm boots that are easy to walk in. I understand many of you won't like the above pictured boots, but the principle still applies. I would have pictured some Bean boots, but sadly they're back home in Maine. If you refuse to wear boots all day and would rather wear dainty flats or heels, carry those in your bag and change into them when you get to your destination.
I hope you guys found these tips helpful!
