I wanted to share this recipe with you all because it is so easy and useful. I call this chameleon bread because it is so versatile! I use it for sandwiches, bruschetta and crostinis, croutons, and general munching.
To start, we're going to mix together our warm water, yeast and sugar. Let this rest for 15 minutes, it should look like the above picture .
Then add in your salt and then your flour (stirring after each cup). Add flour until the mixture isn't sticky anymore. Let your dough rise for 15-30 minutes.
After they've sufficiently risen put them in the oven for at 425 for 15 minutes. Since the middle loaf was for others, right before I put them in I brushed it with olive oil and sprinkled salt and rosemary on top.
After 15 minutes your bread is done and will be delish!
Note: I used whole wheat flour for this, but the recipe is the same with white flour as well. Also, I'm sorry that the orientation of the photos is wonky, they wouldn't let me do anything about it. I'm also sorry that my "bread forming" isn't very pretty. I'm not one to care much about how aesthetically pleasing my food is; I'm sure this will change in culinary school.
Chameleon Bread
- 2 cups warm water
- 2 tbsp yeast
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
- 3-4 cups flour
Preheat oven to 425. Then, mix together the water, yeast and sugar. Let this mixture rest for about 15 minutes, then add in the salt and flour (mixing after every cup of flour). Add flour until your dough isn't horrendously sticky anymore. Let your dough rise for 15-30 minutes. Once your dough has risen, form it into whatever shape you want; I prefer doing two long loaves (similar to baguettes).
